who is April Lundy?

Born in Atlanta, GA as a child, April Lundy was very interested in performing and directing her friends in stories she would create.  Being the daughter of a traveling salesman uprooted April several times exposing her to a multiplicity of personalities and perceptions of the world.  After returning Atlanta as a teenager, April was exposed to and mingled among a group of artists who would become some of the most talented performers in the world.  This lead April to what would be her destiny.  She began producing and directing music videos and other visual content for artist such as; Usher, Outkast, Monica, TLC, Tyrese, Bobby Brown & Whitney Houston, Julie Dexter, Arrested Development, Goodie Mob, Micheal Bivins, and Laurnea to name a few.

 

April earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with a concentration in Broadcast News in 1992 from Georgia State University. She furthered her education 2005 earning her Master of Fine Arts degree in Digital Filmmaking and Art from Georgia State University.

 Founding her first film production company in 1995, April was at the helm of one of the few African-American film production companies owned by women.  April quickly climbed the ranks as an industry player and garnered projects with the Majors.  April has directed and produced projects for Arista Records, Motown Records, Organized Noize, LaFace Records, Universal Records, Columbia, BMG, SoSoDef Recordings, Priority Records, Interscope Records, MCA Records, JVC Japan Records and EMI Records to name a few. 

Forming her second production company in 1997 proved and solidified April’s industry instincts.  Successful credits of this company include The Book Of Love, a feature film starring Robin Givens, Salli Richardson and Robert Townsend; The Come Up, a sexy Docu-Drama co-produced by Jermaine Dupri of SoSo Def Recordings and a seasonal stint of BET’s Teen Summit.

In addition, April has written, directed and produced several Corporate Industrials and Public Service announcements for organizations and companies such as The Red Cross, IBM, The City of Atlanta, The National Stop Violence organization and The Urban League of Essex County, New Jersey.

 In 2004, April wrote and directed The Color of Surrogacy, a documentary that explores the lives of African American couples that pursue gestational surrogacy (assisted reproduction).

In the fall of 2006, April joined the esteemed faculty at Clark Atlanta University’s Division of Communication Arts.

At Clark Atlanta University April has been awarded the honor of serving as a W.E.B. Dubois Faculty Fellow.  In addition to her faculty position, she serves as the Mass Media Arts Film & Television Coordinator & Director of Internships under the Department Chair. Moreover, Ms. Lundy has contributed to the development of several Mass Media Arts courses, most notably the new Convergent Media course at Clark Atlanta. She has served as a panelist for Clark Atlanta University’s annual Communication and Social Change Conference in which she presented her paper, The Politics of Black Female Sexuality in Film & Television that has been published in Communication & Social Change Journal-an annual publication of the Dr. Cheryl Gooch & the Center of Excellence in Communication Arts.

Most recently April’s credits include; Story Producer & Field Producer on the reality series, Keith Sweat’s Platinum House and Creator of reality series, Next Level.
